a little humor for a day of poultry…

Benny Hill tattoo

when i came across this person & this image…i kind of sat on it for a bit, not sure when to use it for a post…and then i realized how apropos it is for the day before Thanksgiving – a time when we spend large concentrated amounts of time with our families and relatives that we&#39re glad to see…but it also can be maddening. maybe you&#39re visiting in-laws, or your divorced sets of parents, or people you&#39ve &#39adopted&#39 for the holiday. and so i realized how connected this image is in the grand scheme of things.

the main thing you have to do is MAINTAIN YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR.

this guy obviously carries around Benny Hill and his sense of humor emblazoned on the circumference of his calf for some very important reason. and he&#39s absolutely right.

i must admit that slapstick comedy is really my least favorite – but my dad loves Benny Hill, and dissolves into giggles when watching the Benny Hill reruns like a little boy (unlike the 75 year old man that he actually is) and so i figured that i would encourage everyone who is visiting in-laws, or future in-laws, or the complicated dynamics of your very own family tomorrow for Thanksgiving – to just embrace the whole glorious messiness of it all, and pretend that you&#39re in one of those quirky independent films and sitting in the audience laughing at your own plight, and just enjoy the hell out of it all.

the forties, flowers…and feet

flowered feet

came upon a girl named Courtney who had these amazing flowers tattoed on her feet; which were sitting pretty in some very retro 1940&#39s persimmon colored peep toe wedges. she told me that her boyfriend, Cole Dirt from Artistic Encounter, did them for her.

we&#39re both in the visual profession – and so i appreciated a great vignette like this.

this blog really isn&#39t only about shoes…although it seems that lately…my accidental &#34happenings-upon&#34 have been a lot of self expression happening with people&#39s feet.

hmmmm…a theme or a thread… of very expressive feet.

light as…a feather

came across this girl – as a flash of feathery color whirled past me, and so i had to capture it.

The Girl with The Feather Tattoo.

said she had been working on it over the weekend (herself? not sure.) and so the reason why it was &#34shiny.&#34

if such a thing as a cheery, optimistic feather existed…this was most certainly it.

in an episode of stream of consciousness, it made me think of a game we used to play at slumber parties in probably like 6th grade, called &#34Light as a Feather&#34. one time, in a backyard tent – it even worked!

Chewie & Darth…duke it out in a western

chewie and darth

what an amazing western face-off  – Darth Vader & Chewbacca in the house – Chewbacca as cowboy and Darth Vader as indian. These belong to a cyclist named Cassidy, and they look
very badass as he flies by on his pink, blue & green bike.

Han Solo should have been so lucky to have these.

May The Force be with you.

you never know when the Virgin Mary will appear…

in this case, she showed up on the socks of a man with a unicorn head, on Team Super Awesome. A crying Jesus also made a special guest appearance.

my boyfriend races in the mad sport known as Cyclocross; a Belgian specialty which combines road cycling with dismounting and running up insane hills, through mud & sand pits, and jumping and carrying your bike over barriers much like horses jump over in cross-country. All at an epic breakneck pace. Oh, and did i mention, full speed… for an entire hour.

the cyclocross world is rife with characters such as these, and many more. there are wigs. there are copious amounts of cowbells. there are sometimes tutus, and often vuvuzelas. there is heckling. once there was even a full blown mariachi band. it&#39s a mad, mad world – grueling & fun.

to watch, that is.

the jersey shore…for sure

my family goes to the Jersey shore every year;
this particular year, i walked by 2 guys and a
girl who were tanning on the beach, and was
immediately struck by the brazen skeleton in flight…
proudly inked on his chest. the sun was so bright
and in my face…and he was a little taken aback at
my asking to take a photo – that ironically, i didn&#39t
actually even notice the piercings, until i got
back to our little sand-laden motel room.
