although this is a throwback from Halloween…i actually saw a woman named Danielle wearing these badass shoes at work, and she was in stylin&#39 gangsta costume.

but apart from the Halloween factor…how great are these SHOES. i mean…brass knuckles for heels!

they were off the chain, and she really pulled them off. i fully expected an armed car full of men in stylish zoot suits, Chicago mafioso style, waiting for her around the corner.

(ok, so maybe only in my imagination.)

check it out.

not hemming and hawing…

this is Julie.

she happens to be wearing an amazing pair of perfectly fitted vintage pants…and she is 6&#39 tall, wearing them so elegantly.

she was sauntering very gracefully along in said amazing pants – until i stopped her, of course.

look at the clever hem on the &#34cuff!&#34 it’s pinched, like sewing trickery that fools the eye.

like trompe l’ oeil, but on a pair of pants.

i’m happy you’re…

Tony Takitani film

since i write about things that visually draw me in…and i work in and love fashion…thought i&#39d post this screen grab i took on my phone from a japanese film i saw (i loooove foreign films.) the scene was so poignant… i had to freeze frame it immediately.

it&#39s about a woman who is obsessed with fashion and designer clothes…but with a distinct twist; and a melancholic, tragic one at that. he&#39s painfully pleading to her at this very moment that while he&#39s happy she&#39s &#39getting beautiful&#39…it is causing catastrophic consequences to their life.

very haunting film – and has a human universal slant on beauty; in all cultures, across the Great Continental Male & Female Divide…this one from more so the male perspective.

a lot of bling…for your buck

bling bling

this woman had a lot of sparkle, and a lot of bling on her icons.
angel wings on her back…and shimmering union jacks on her pockets.

culture vulture

visually capturing this vulture on a ledge for a millisecond, made me realize that really…i am also
a &#34culture vulture&#34 – by virtue of doing this very blog. funny, because of working in fashion and seeing this vulture and his friends hanging out on a ledge – that&#39s exactly what i do; hang out, change positions, and be a social voyeur…just surveying the landscape below as we know it.

been doing this for as long as i can remember; almost like it&#39s a sport. just had no arena, until now, to show it. i live for the opportunity to show a &#39slice of life.&#39 or, as my friend Huma calls it –
&#39life narrative.&#39

but hopefully… i don&#39t prey upon my subjects, like he does.

cube farm casualty

when i walked by this, it caught my eye with all the eerie presence of a David Lynch film…
a reclining soul; languishing without a limb… surrounded by fashionistas

lorner…with lorgnette

lorner with lorgnette

one of my favorite quirky boutiques in Adelaide, Miss Gladys Sym Choon, had a juried fashion shoot/gallery exhibit in conjunction with sponsor Vogue Australia. Photographers were allowed to check out 3 pieces for 24 hours from the Sym Choon collection, and submit the best photo select to be in the gallery show. Any model of your choosing; any styling.

I chose one of my best friends, Michelle Button, as the model, and we embarked on an imaginary fashion odyssey. The theme: a stranded, otherwordly woman on the way to the Sydney Opera House…stranded in the australian desert, while en route to see an epic operatic tragedy.

Asking around at work if anyone knew where I could possibly find some vintage opera glasses in a pinch, a very patrician woman I worked with at Country Road got a twinkle in her eye… left, and came back the next day with a vintage lorgnette from her jeweler, who apparently owed her a favor. (no, i didn't ask)

Sketching my idea on a napkin (of course!) for the model's outlandish, eccentric hair, I quickly called my fav hair stylist at my salon; Paisley Park Hair, and asked if she thought she could bring my vision to life.

When she saw my sketch, her face went pale. "Um, I'll try…but it's very, um, vertical!?" After frowning deeply for a few minutes, her face lit up and she rushed to the back of the salon, and reappeared triumphantly with…a fist full of florist stem wire. So for the next few hours we tortured Michelle with gravity-defying hair tricks – and piled her into the car to head to the location. We had to flatten the seats – and she had to lay down in the car so as not to smash the 'do.

The temperature that day… tipped the 105º F mark. I love how she looks so nonplussed.

A beautiful lorner.

And the red ring…is a vintage poison ring I bought from a puerto rican lady, once my neighbor in Brooklyn (name unknown) who was having an impromptu garage sale. I'll feature that at a later date.

No idea why i saved it for 25 years. It probably has a spell cast on it or something.

Stranger things have happened.
