transported…by art nouveau

Posters of Paris

rushed to see the last few days of Posters of Paris: Toulouse-Lautrec and His Contemporaries
at the Dallas Museum of Art. although art nouveau falls second to my first reaching-unhealthy-proportions-love of art deco, i still love it & it nevertheless transported me out of the digital age, forced me to unplug for an afternoon, and sent me to Paris- vicariously.

i knew, of course, of Toulouse Lautrec and even of Alphonse Mucha…but not of some of the others that sent me into a dizzying spin of revisiting the art of hand lettering, wildly gesticulating lines and saturated colors and the frivolity of performance art of the day.  and… i began to
re-imagine myself as a french can can girl – exactly as i felt on this photo shoot years ago in the decadent days of not Paris, but New York. dreams of flinging up my ruffled skirt and flirting poutily and sassily as i stopped dancing & swirling for a moment of headiness to sip some absinthe…
