a leopard never changes her spots…or does she?

randomly ran into a woman named Shandra; i immediately loved the conviction she had in her style…from her dual colored pompadour-ponytailed hair, to her leopard coat worn with another print, to her leopard purse, right down to her matching red lips.

charmed…in every sense of the word

so this is my very groovy co-worker, Lecia, who is a copywriter/project manager.
she has such ubiquitous charm…and yes, pun intended; because this particular day i walked past her cube, and she was wearing this charm necklace she made, (!) that jetted me right back into my childhood happy place with all of the miniature toy charms i used to have, hoard and treasure.

a happy place indeed.

not to mention how insanely cozy-quirky-quirky-cozy her cube is – replete with vintage lamps, owls, old luggage, a porch chair and a mailbox that i&#39ll have to feature in a future post. and these great vintage ads that harken back to earlier days of the retailer for whom we work (look closely, you&#39ll see). The last ad (Slack-o-Rama! who wouldn&#39t want a Slack-o-Rama?) she found when unwrapping some vintage dishes that her grandmother gave her, and she rescued & repurposed them for a clever dose of cube art.

a little humor for a day of poultry…

Benny Hill tattoo

when i came across this person & this image…i kind of sat on it for a bit, not sure when to use it for a post…and then i realized how apropos it is for the day before Thanksgiving – a time when we spend large concentrated amounts of time with our families and relatives that we&#39re glad to see…but it also can be maddening. maybe you&#39re visiting in-laws, or your divorced sets of parents, or people you&#39ve &#39adopted&#39 for the holiday. and so i realized how connected this image is in the grand scheme of things.

the main thing you have to do is MAINTAIN YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR.

this guy obviously carries around Benny Hill and his sense of humor emblazoned on the circumference of his calf for some very important reason. and he&#39s absolutely right.

i must admit that slapstick comedy is really my least favorite – but my dad loves Benny Hill, and dissolves into giggles when watching the Benny Hill reruns like a little boy (unlike the 75 year old man that he actually is) and so i figured that i would encourage everyone who is visiting in-laws, or future in-laws, or the complicated dynamics of your very own family tomorrow for Thanksgiving – to just embrace the whole glorious messiness of it all, and pretend that you&#39re in one of those quirky independent films and sitting in the audience laughing at your own plight, and just enjoy the hell out of it all.

although this is a throwback from Halloween…i actually saw a woman named Danielle wearing these badass shoes at work, and she was in stylin&#39 gangsta costume.

but apart from the Halloween factor…how great are these SHOES. i mean…brass knuckles for heels!

they were off the chain, and she really pulled them off. i fully expected an armed car full of men in stylish zoot suits, Chicago mafioso style, waiting for her around the corner.

(ok, so maybe only in my imagination.)

check it out.

rockabilly…the 1940’s

this is Nik, who I just ran across randomly at one of my boyfriend&#39s cyclocross races near Austin.

love her rockabilly 1940’s style mixed with the Rosie the Riveter headwrap, mixed with cowboy boots and the cool vintage dress.

and the beautifully executed tattoo.

and… the best part?

(i was a Brownie when i was little, and fond memories – so it jumped right out at me)

i think she said her mom found it when cleaning out some stuff and gave it back to her.

what a great expression of personal style.

wings…of desire

came across this stylin&#39 guy, Travis, who had these amaze fly kicks (no pun intended…promise).
a vintage-ish (4-5 years old) Jeremy Scott collaboration with adidas.

made me think of a fav film of mine…a classic that you should definitely put in your Netflix queue: Wings of Desire by Wim Wenders. (skip the 1998 remake with Meg Ryan and go right to the german one, the real deal!)

anyway, i gotta admire someone who makes a statement on their feet…and that he aspires to fly.

at least on terra firma.

global reach…

african dress in airport

traditional african dress, Atlanta airport

how beautiful is her national costume.

what you can&#39t see in the pic… (moving too fast!) was her adorable, impeccably dressed preppy little boy, with his stylish graphic teddy bear knapsack.

portrait: gent with…a jaunty hat

gent in jaunty hat

happened upon, in an elevator, a charming english gent with a festive jaunty hat. His name is Martin, and he&#39s a photo stylist.

i think the hat may have been the secret source of… his magnificent sartorial style.

scissor kick…

scissor sister

recently have taken up yoga…and after years of trepidation, it is the best damn thing i could have done.

so i&#39m bending forward into a downward dog..and i see this woman in front of me with an intriguing scissors icon tattooed on her foot.

and yes, as it turns out…she is in the cosmetology industry.

the forties, flowers…and feet

flowered feet

came upon a girl named Courtney who had these amazing flowers tattoed on her feet; which were sitting pretty in some very retro 1940&#39s persimmon colored peep toe wedges. she told me that her boyfriend, Cole Dirt from Artistic Encounter, did them for her.

we&#39re both in the visual profession – and so i appreciated a great vignette like this.

this blog really isn&#39t only about shoes…although it seems that lately…my accidental &#34happenings-upon&#34 have been a lot of self expression happening with people&#39s feet.

hmmmm…a theme or a thread… of very expressive feet.
